Officials from Slovakia and Japan helped prepare ADRA Slovakia’s humanitarian aid packages for the people of Ukraine. This symbolic gesture showed that the countries continue to stand by Ukraine and want to help people who have lost access to the most basic needs – food, personal hygiene products and warm clothes – as a result of the war.

On December 20, 2022, Slovakia’s State Secretary Ingrid Brocková and Japanese Ambassador H.E. Makoto Nakagawa from the Embassy of Japan in Slovakia and SlovakAid Director Tomáš Bokor prepared humanitarian aid packages in ADRA Slovakia’s Trenčín warehouse.

During the visit, representatives of both countries could see what ADRA Slovakia’s humanitarian aid looks like on the ground, hear the challenges they face, and hear the moving stories of ADRA’s Ukrainian staff, who are actively involved in helping their compatriots in Ukraine.

“We are delighted to connect people and organisations across continents and build meaningful partnerships with them. Because without the cooperation and mutual support, we would not be able to help on this scale,” Stano Bielik, ADRA Slovakia’s director, explains.

The total value of humanitarian aid is more than 1.5 million euros. ADRA Ukraine helps with the distribution of assistance in Ukraine.

The donor, SlovakAid, enabled sending six trucks with 7,920 food and hygiene parcels to help more than 23,000 displaced people in newly liberated areas in Ukraine.

With the funds from Japan Platform and ADRA Japan, twelve trucks with 15,840 food and hygiene parcels to help more than 47,500 displaced people in the war-torn areas of the south and east of Ukraine were prepared.
