In the middle of June there were forest fires in Portugal that caused great destruction. Sixty-four people lost their lives in the flames, more than 200 seriously injured. Whole settlements were destroyed and many families have lost everything. The Adventist Development and Disaster Relief Agency, ADRA Portugal provided rapid emergency relief to serious victims.

ADRA Portugal reported that they have donated a total of seven tonnes of food, 150 meals, hundreds of water bottles, hygiene items, small and large household appliances, mattresses, bed linen, blankets and kitchen utensils to the affected families. These relief supplies were distributed shortly after the catastrophe.

Now what remains to do is clearing the land, cleaning the houses as well as some reconstruction. ADRA Portugal continues to collect furniture and household appliances and can use psycho-social care for the traumatized families.
