September 23-29 is International Deaf Awareness Week. Much global progress has taken place regarding Deaf awareness within the Seventh-day Adventist church (Adventists) in these last years. “Baptisms of the Deaf have risen dramatically” said Larry Evans, Deaf Ministries Liaison and Assistant to the president of Adventist General Conference. “It is amazing what the Lord has done through leaders around the world and other supportive organizations”.

Pastor Jeff Jordan, Deaf Ministries Associate, and Deaf pastor of a Deaf church, declared: “Did you know that the week of September 23-29 is International Deaf Awareness week? It may shock you that there are about 70 million deaf people in the world and only 2% of them are Christian! It’s a huge mission field! The Deaf must be reached for Jesus.

Many of the Deaf use sign language and there are about 400 different sign languages in the world! We need to work together in reaching the Deaf and you can be a part of it. “How,” you may ask? By prayer. By learning sign language. By understanding Deaf Culture. By getting involved with the Deaf Community. You can make a difference in a Deaf person’s life!”

“You can make a difference” said Evans. “We all must work together”.
