Friedensau Adventist University (ThHF) and ADRA Europe, a charitable aid organisation for development cooperation based in Brussels (Belgium), have expressed their mutual interest in further and closer cooperation - and have now put it in writing.

João Martins―director of ADRA Europe―and Prof. Dr. Roland Fischer―rector of the ThHF―signed a memorandum, in Friedensau on May 23, 2022, in which the forms and contents for a continuation and expansion of the cooperation are detailed.

ADRA is a globally active organisation, affiliated with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, that provides development cooperation and humanitarian aid. ADRA and its regional branches support people in need, for example, in flood areas like the Ahr valley (North Rhine-Westphalia), or, as the supra-regional aid centres do, in African, European or Asian refugee camps, to name a few.

What is the connection between ADRA Europe and Friedensau Adventist University? How can one imagine cooperation between the two institutions? To this end, it should be noted that the ThHF offers English language master’s degree programmes that prepare students for work in development cooperation and humanitarian aid.

Currently, more than 100 students from about 25 different countries are enrolled in these study programmes. The agreed cooperation between ADRA Europe and the university is a consolidation of a cooperation that has been growing for many years. The central points are practical teaching projects and internships for students, along with the evaluation and further education offers of the Institute for Evaluation (FIFE), which was founded two years ago.

The International Social Sciences programme is also open to German applicants; the language of instruction is English. The application deadline is August 31.

“For ADRA, it is paramount to have qualified staff to fulfil our mission more effectively,” explained João Martins, ADRA Europe director. “[Through] this partnership with Friedensau University, we increase our capacity to serve better those in need.”
