Few things could be more touching than to observe thousands of young people praying and praising the Lord together. And that is precisely what happened in the evening of 29th July, at Camporee International 2019, in Portugal.
Under the moto “God’s Promise: Always with you”, Adventist youth met for worship at 19:30 pm, to start the official program of the Camp. There was time to sing the official theme, to pray, to have the devotional led by Pastor Stephan Sigg, President of the German-Swiss Conference and special speaker for the spiritual meetings.
Presenting the experience of Joshua, Sigg remind the pathfinders that allowing God to be part of their life will make the difference. Let’s see what we can learn more from Joshua’s life through Sigg’s insights during this week. Interesting inputs will come.
There also a most appreciated moment in which the delegations paraded with the official flags of their countries and had the axe ceremony. Portuguese delegation, responsible for hosting the Camporee, also presented an artistic piece, based on the country’s traditional music, “Fado”.
This was also an opportunity to present the Church and the Adventist youth movement to Portuguese authorities present at the ceremony. In the good social environment related to religion felt in the country, representatives from the Government, the City Hall and the Religious Liberty Commission were present and showed their appreciation for the program and the initiative. “It is a pleasure to receive you, young people, from such different origins, in Portugal. You are all welcome”, said José Vera Jardim, the President of Religious Liberty Commission.
At the end of the ceremony, there was really a sense of unity and belonging, to the Camp and to the Adventist youth movement. But also, above all, a feeling and an expectation of receiving great blessings from God in this Camporee.
