After the day care centre in Wasserburg (Upper Bavaria), the next day care centre of the Adventist Welfare Organization (Advent-Wohlfahrtswerk e. V., AWW) is to be built in Gunzenhausen, in Central Franconia. The course for this has been set by the decision makers, the AWW said in a press release.
As in other cities in Germany, there have been too few day care places in Gunzenhausen for years. The city council is therefore being besieged by a number of families to find a remedy. Therefore, two new day care centres are to be built in Gunzenhausen. One of them is to be built next to the Adventist church in Gunzenhausen, Bahnhof-street 39, where the congregation wants to convert its old church building. In this context, a new day care centre is to be built with 50 day care and 12 crèche places. According to the AWW, the building contractor for the entire project will be the Süddeutsche Bauverein der Freikirche der Siebenten-Tags-Adventisten (Southern German Building Institution of the Seventh-day Adventist Church). The Bauverein is responsible for managing church properties of the church in southern Germany.
"A big challenge"
The AWW puts the construction costs for the day care centre in Bahnhof-street at about 4.43 million euros, of which the city and the Free State of Bavaria will contribute a construction subsidy of 2.85 million euros. The construction project is a great challenge for the developer and the future day-care centre operator as well as for the city. Jürgen Hildebrand, head of the department for early childhood education and upbringing at AWW and project manager for the day care centre foundation in Gunzenhausen, is confident that the project will be realised.
AWW day care centres
The Advent-Wohlfahrtswerk e. V. is the social welfare organisation of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Germany and currently runs four day care centres (Berlin, Fürth, Munich, Bad Aibling) as well as a curative education day care centre in Neuburg/Donau. A fifth day care centre is currently being built in Wasserburg/Inn and will start operation in January 2024.
