For several months, a large-scale conflict with devastating humanitarian effects has been raging in Ukraine. This conflict led to the displacement of the population, both within Ukraine and at the borders of neighboring countries. The Norwegian Refugee Council, in partnership with ADRA Romania, intervenes on the situation of refugees in Romania, within the project "Winter response for refugees from Ukraine". The project assists refugees with their essential needs, namely providing for the immediate and short-term basic needs of Ukrainian refugees during the winter.
The beneficiaries of the ADRA Romania project "Response to winterization for refugees from Ukraine", which is part of the field of expertise "Assisting disadvantaged social categories" , are Ukrainian refugees. These refugees, a number of approximately 1,800 people, will have their basic needs met to enable them to go through the cold winter season more easily.
This project, implemented by ADRA Romania in partnership with the Norwegian Refugee Council, aimed at Ukrainian refugees in the territory of Romania, is being carried out for 5 months, starting on October 1, 2022.
The objective of this project, with a total value of 400,000 USD, is to assist a group of Ukrainian refugees in the territory of Romania. As part of the project, Ukrainian refugees will benefit from individual clothing for the cold winter season. Bedding kits and air heaters for room heating will also be distributed to those accommodated in private housing.
"Lately, we have been facing crisis situations with no way out, but ADRA Romania is always at work to fill people's hearts with hope for tomorrow,” said Cătălin Mantu, ADRA Romania Project Manager. “Together with our partner, we respond promptly to the needs of Ukrainian refugees [in] our country, especially children who will spend their first holidays away from home. We thank the Norwegian Refugee Council for [their] involvement and funding!" concluded Mantu.
The Norwegian Refugee Council is a humanitarian non-governmental organization that protects the rights of people affected by displacement. This includes refugees and internally displaced persons who are forced to flee their homes as a result of conflict, human rights violations and acute violence, as well as climate change and natural disasters.
