In the 59th week of implementation of the project "Humanitarian Support COVID-19", the ADRA team reached 542 people, including 245 adults fighting to ensure decent living conditions, 142 children from disadvantaged backgrounds, but who have exceptional academic results, 75 single elderly people with acute livelihoods, 74 entrepreneurs, 7 immigrants and 5 victims of domestic violence.

Therefore, in the week of April 18 – 24, 2021, alone, the specialized services adapted to the specific needs generated or accentuated by the COVID-19 context were materialized through the ADRA project “Humanitarian Support COVID-19” for 542 beneficiaries, as follows: 375 people received basic food for a decent living, and to be able to get through these days of crisis more easily, of which 76 received a daily hot meal at home; 86 people benefited from social assistance and psychological counseling for the crisis; 74 entrepreneurs were monitored in the course of their economic activity; and 7 people received help to provide shelter.

“Week 59 of coexistence in the COVID-19 pandemic brings a slight breath of relaxation in terms of social measures taken by officials after a long period of fluctuations,” said Bogdan Stanica, ADRA Romania Project Manager. “Mutations in the virus have led to the emergence of several strains that make it difficult to facilitate travel, activities, and relaxation of legislative measures. The advancement of the [campaign for] vaccination of the population helps a lot to diminish the effects of this virus but it is not yet a permanent immunization but a temporary one which, in any case, represents a considerable advance in this situation. The different perceptions of vaccination among the population, [and] also certain types of vaccines with unfortunate effects on health, have the effect of a slight reluctance in people to get vaccinated, but the figures are encouraging,” concluded Stanica.

Within the project “Humanitarian support COVID-19”, specially created for the current situation, ADRA Romania aims to reduce the risks generated by the COVID-19 virus among the population. The objective is achieved by promoting prevention measures and socio-economic adaptability, and by ensuring the provision of needed commodities to maintain safety.
